Type of Project
Custom Multi-Level Deck & Covered Porch

Two years ago, a homeowner in Canton reached out to request the removal of old stairs to make room for a new pool. While a basic demolition job wasn’t a match for our specialized crew at the time, we asked them to reach back out once the pool was in. They remembered, and when they called back, a vision for a 52’ x 18’ custom mineral-based composite deck began to take shape.

Navigating complex structural hurdles and spatial constraints that had the homeowners worried, we focused on every detail during the planning phase. While our quote sat at the top of the list, this client bypassed the “cheapest” options.

Engineering an Outdoor Masterpiece

This project represents one of our most intricate builds. We treated the space as a genuine extension of the residence, focusing on what lies beneath the surface to guarantee performance for decades.

Beyond the Surface: A “Marine-Grade” Foundation

The skeleton features YellaWood Extreme UCB. 23 Marine-Treated framing supported by 18″ PWT LVLs. These materials are typically reserved for high-moisture environments like docks, ensuring the structure remains stable.

By integrating a DekDrain EPDM water management system, we kept the lower level dry, allowing for a finished Cedar Tongue & Groove ceiling. This converted the area under the deck into a functional, dry outdoor living room.

The Covered Porch & Outdoor Kitchen

A 23’ x 18’ covered porch serves as the centerpiece of the build, featuring a Standing Seam metal roof and Zip System sheathing. The natural cedar ceiling houses a Tradewind 6ft vent hood from BBQ Guys, specifically integrated to handle smoke from the homeowner’s smoker and outdoor kitchen setup.

High-Precision Artistry: The Result

The surface of this build is where design meets durability. Using Deckorators Summit and Voyage lines, we crafted a custom Herringbone inlay and multi-layer picture framing that serves as a visual centerpiece. To maintain unobstructed pool views, we installed a hybrid cable railing system using Cable Bullet and Deckorators components, topped with functional drink rails.

The result is a Canton backyard that functions with the same sophistication as a home’s interior.
