Built for the Long Haul
This couple had made their decision. Woodstock was home, permanently. After researching local outdoor living companies, they reached out because they noticed our attention to detail. From the first conversation, it was clear the space had to reflect who they were: people who love the quiet of the woods, the company of birds, and doing things right the first time.
Marine-Grade Bones for a Wooded Georgia Lot
The framing is YellaWood Extreme UCB.23 Marine Treated lumber, the same standard used in dock construction. A deck over Georgia clay, surrounded by mature trees that hold moisture and drop debris, needs a skeleton rated for it.
Beneath the deck, a DekDrain EPDM water management system keeps the lower level dry. The husband wanted usable storage for tools down below, so we sealed the underside tight, framed custom skirting around it, and hid an access door in the paneling. You’d never know it was there.
A Palette Pulled From the Tree Line
Deckorators Summit Glacier covers the field boards and skirting, a cool, neutral tone that reads naturally against a wooded Georgia lot. Deckorators Voyage Tundra anchors the picture frame border, adding contrast and definition. The front porch was tied into the same material palette; same detailing, smaller footprint. The whole property reads as one cohesive piece.
Open Views, Defined Edges
The Deckorators cable railing in white powder coat keeps sightlines open into the canopy while adding clean contrast against the decking tones. Privacy panels, powder-coated by Custom Coaters Atlanta to match, were planned from the start, not added at the end.
Shade on Demand, Light After Dark
This project was our first installation of the Hansø Home motorized retractable awning with built-in LED lighting. It extends and retracts on demand, handles wind responsibly, and the integrated lighting keeps the space functional after dark. It exceeded expectations.
Built for the Birds (Literally)
The wife is a devoted bird lover. So we built her custom birdhouses from leftover Deckorators decking; cut and assembled to match the deck, weatherproof by default. Entry hole diameters were sized precisely for her two favorite species: 1-1/8″ for Chickadees, 1-1/2″ for House Sparrows.
We got nerdy about it. The houses came out sharp; the composite construction means they’ll last as long as the deck itself, with zero maintenance required.
It was the right thing to do for a couple who kept the crew fed with homemade baked goods and smoked chicken throughout the build.
